The inventory management system in Laris is the backbone of the management of your products and listings. You can learn more about the inventory capabilities of Laris here.

Item Templates

  • Laris uses a unique method for organizing and storing your items. Each time you input an item that has never been entered before, you will be creating a template for that item. A product template is a generic description for a specific item. A template is generally made up of a generic description, a picture, a summary of all parts & manuals that the item usually comes with, a list of internal references used to store bits of info about the item, and all pricing and eBay listing preferences. This template will be used the next time you enter the same type of item. Additional description is used to describe any differences between the product being entered, and its template. Things such as physical blemishes, non-working parts, and extras are described in the additional description area. Items that are identical to the template and have no  additional description can simply be entered by adding to the quantity of the template (unless the item differs in from the template in any way).

Titles

  • Titles are used to index the templates you create and share. A combination of three title elements is always used to index an item template. For example, the template for a Sony radio can be indexed by manufacturer (Sony), model (SNY-043), and a model description (am/fm radio receiver). These indexes are called titles in Laris. You can change the predefined titles for any category of item although if you do, you will no longer have access to any existing templates you had for that category before the change. This is used when you are adding products with the catalog add

Best Practice

  • Let’s say you were entering a Tyco remote control car for the first time. This car is perfect except that it is missing the instruction manual and the bumper is broken. First, you should make sure that you have the “Toys” category selected. Then, you will be prompted to provide the title (brand, model number, and model description) for that item. In this case, you will enter “Tyco” for the brand, “RC150” for the model, and “Remote Control Car” for the model description. Now, you have created an index or title by which you could refer to this template. On the item detail page, you will notice that the title for the item has been generated using the three title elements you entered on the previous page (Tyco RC150 Remote Control Car). You can leave the title as it is, or you can modify it right from here. This is the title that will be displayed when this item is listed. Next, type a generic description for this item, “This is a very fast remote control car meant for racing or off-road.”. You can also add a picture of the car, although since your car has a broken bumper, it’s probably best not to make this picture part of the template (do not select “Is Template” for the picture). If you were to have a picture of the car in perfect condition (maybe from the box), that would be a more appropriate picture to make part of the template. For the parts & manuals, you should add “Car”, “Box”, “Remote Control”, “Instruction Manual” and check all except “Instruction Manual” since this car doesn’t have one. For the additional description, which is not part of the template, you could write “Car has a damaged bumper. Front-left corner is cracked”. All other information including product references, pricing and eBay listing preferences are saved as part of the template.
